The most common question I receive is “Lori…what do I do with my dahlias over the winter?” and “I spent all this money on these tubers so how do I protect them? “
I personally love in-person, on farm experiences where I can interact 1:1 with the farmer. So we decided to offer an on farm workshop where you can view our dahlia field and learn and everything you need to know to protect your dahlia tubers over the winter.
I’ll go in depth including what tools and supplies we use and will cover all of our successes and failures. You will see how we dig and store our dahlias whether you grow in ground, raised beds or bags/pots.
We will cover EVERYTHING you need to know about winterizing your dahlias including leaving them in the ground vs. digging them, storing dahlias, etc. We will show you all the ways we handle our dahlias including leaving them in ground/grow bags/pots and digging them for storage.
This is your chance to see up close and personal how we handle winterizing our tubers and you will leave with a written guide and personal plan that you feel confident works for you!
NOTE*** This is not a "how to divide my dahlias" workshop as we will offer a dividing workshop in the spring.
We will open the farm gate at 8:45am for you early birds and you will have time to leisurely stroll the dahlia field and take pictures. We had a frost, but not enough to kill the dahlias, and with our warm weather this week the field will continue to be full of blooms.
***IMPORTANT NOTES - PLEASE READ!***
No bathroom facilities are available on-site, so please prepare before arrival. While we love all animals, please leave your pets at home.
The flower field ground is sloped and uneven in many places, so wear comfortable shoes suitable for walking on uneven terrain.
Additionally, there will be honey bees and bumble bees present in the fields, so plan accordingly if you have a bee allergy.
Parking is limited so please carpool if possible and follow signs for parking.
Tickets are non-refundable.
We recommend Mama Macs Coffee and Sandwiches in downtown Carnesville as well as Bebops Bakery in downtown Royston for breakfast and lunch!
